Slot Loading Drive Vs. Tray
Guys, I noticed that the new Meridian units: G06.2, G08.2, G92, G95 & G96 all feature Slot Loading drive mechanisms instead of the usual Tray Loading mechanisms used in the majority of CD players. Yes, I know that Slot Loaders have been in car audio for years but IME, this is a first for dome. Older car audio slot loading players and other older slot loaders often had rollers that made physical friction contact with the play side of the CD to load and eject the CD. The slot loaders with rollers are bad because they're always making contact with the play side, but also because if the CD got stuck, even for a bit, the rollers would.
My personal preference is Tray-Loading because my try-loading drive can read 80 mm discs and if there is a power outage, I can retrieve my disc without having any trouble and put it to use in my laptop.
